Isabella "Ivy" Valentine (イザベラ・バレンタイン - アイヴィー, Izabera Barentain - Aivī) is a character in the Soul series of fighting games. She has appeared in every game after Soul Calibur, and has grown to be one the most recognizable characters. She is also easily one of the most popular due to her voluptuous figure and knack for sporting revealing costumes.
What lies in her soul is Deliverance. In Soulcalibur V's promotional material she is referred to as The Return of a Legend.
Background[]
Isabella's father, Earl Valentine, was driven insane by his never-ending search for the evil sword known as Soul Edge. His pursuit caused his untimely death and overall ruin of the Valentine's wealth and popularity. It wasn't long before Ivy's mom followed her husband into death, leaving Ivy as the sole surviving member of her once extravagant family.
After reading her mother's will, she discovered she was not a true Valentine, and that her parents found her abandoned in front of their mansion. This, however, didn't bother Ivy as they were her only parents. Following her father's desires, she continued his search for the Soul Edge and vowed tod estroy it, using his knowledge of alchemy to create a living, whip-like blade whom she dubbed Ivy Blade.
She eventually crossed paths with Nightmare, the one who had breathed life into her sword. She agreed to assisst him until she had learned that he, in fact, possessed the Soul Edge. She discovered this only after he had been defeated and the evil sword had been shattered. After more research, Ivy also discovered that her own father had weilded Soul Edge and had even been manipulated by it.
Shaken by the truth, Ivy locked herself in her labatory and tried to destroy the Ivy Blade, as it was given life by the evil sword. She could not, however, bring herself to actually destroy it. She saw the blade was the same as her, that the blood of Soul Edge flowed through both of them.
Obtaining a new goal, Ivy renamed the blade Valentine, and now hoped not to only destroy Soul Edge, but wipe away it's existance forever.
